WEST COAST (2026)

The city's theme for this mural was “Natural World of the West Coast: Rocky Point Park is Port Moody’s flagship park and a popular destination to enjoy the Burrard Inlet.”
The initial design inspiration was a collaboration with the City of Port Moody’s Youth Focus Committee through creative workshops. Students from the committee also helped with painting the lower portion of the mural.

This design depicts a stylized panorama from mountains, to coast, to open sea. It follows the descending elevation and actual orientation of the wall, with the higher left side closer to in-land, and the lower right side closer to the shore. Local West Coast wildlife emerge as part of their environment, an interconnected hybrid of animal and landscape. The sky shifts from overcast to a vibrant sunset, with the sun framed by the baby orca. A warm glow sweeps across the rocks.

From left to right: A resting black bear-shaped mountain recedes into the fog. A bugling elk-shaped mountain is surrounded by a small forest at the edge of the coast. Breaching orcas emerge as one with the splashing waves. A harbour seal blends with the rippling ocean surface. Moon jellyfish float alongside bubbles.
