NATURE'S TAPESTRY (2026)

I created this project for my artist residency at the Clayton Community Centre in Surrey.

These tapestries depict a colour and textural gradient from stone, to soil, to lush vegetation. One of my main visions for this project was playing with transparency using negative space. I wanted both to play with the same themes and materials, but look distinctly different. 

For the first tapestry, I focused on creating its forms through a variety of textures using different latch hooking techniques. For the second, I made the footprint of the design the focus while sticking to one latch hooking technique throughout for a more consistent texture.

There was also a collaborative portion of the artist residency. The Clayton community helped me make these small patches of mossy yarn through a series of workshops. These patches now hang from the central spiral stair in the community centre lobby, with many pieces low enough to touch so that visitors can interact tactilely.
